Theo Moorman Technique

Who was Theo Moorman?

An artist, a teacher, a weaver and the creator of a wonderful weave structure now known as the Theo Moorman Technique!

This technique allows the weaver to tie down floats on a plain weave background fabric which means a huge variety of design possibilities.

This weave structure requires 4 shafts and is typically woven on a floor loom. We will be utilising 2 heddles of the same size with a rigid heddle loom.

To complete this class you will need:

*Rigid heddle loom 15” weaving width or wider

*2 x 10 dent heddles

*1 stick shuttle longer than the width of the project.

* Pick up stick

*Tapestry needle for hemstitching

Yarn Selection:

Yarns can vary significantly depending on how you personally want to use the technique.

For my scarf I used a fingering weight wool, 8/2 cotton and a thick wool as pattern weft. I recommend that you watch the class before deciding on your own yarns, as it will really clarify the purpose of each individual yarn.
