Krokbragd on an Inkle Loom

CLASS AND WEAVE ALONG OPEN NOW!

In this class you will learn all about weaving the krokbragd weave structure on your inkle loom to produce beautiful and unique woven bands. This is the most comprehensive krokbragd inkle weaving online class you will find as I share absolutely everything I know with you.

You do need to know how to weave on an inkle loom and ideally have had some practice doing so. If you are brand new to the Inkle Loom, I recommend the Inkle Loom Weaving course to get you started.

This course includes over 4 hours of video time and multiple PDF downloads to help ensure your success!

*THIS CLASS IS FULLY CLOSED CAPTIONED

"Kelly, you are THE BEST weaving teacher! Each course is so comprehensive and has everything a learner, intermediate weaver, or even a more advanced weaver, needs to make beautiful things. The pace is lovely because you go through each step, allowing us to easily follow. THANK YOU for teaching us another wonderful technique. Cheers!!"

Dana

We will learn what the krokbragd weave structure is and how we can alter a weft faced weaving draft in order to weave warp faced krokbragd bands.

We will talk about gaining confidence with appropriate yarns and colours, calculations and step by step set up of your inkle loom for krokbragd.

We will look at how to read threading charts and understanding the weaving sequence.

There are 4 original band designs provided in the class as well as 2 additional designs included in the How to Design section.

The first design, the "Tulip Band" is the foundation class where you will learn all about weaving a krokbragd band on an Inkle Loom.

I will demonstrate how to take an existing weft faced krokbragd draft and convert it to the inkle loom but if reading weaving drafts seems a bit overwhelming I will also show you a simplified way to design your own bands using free online software.

There are 2 ways to approach this class. You can follow the instructions to weave some beautiful bands and become familiar with the krokbragd on an inkle loom technique. Or you can also delve deeper with me and learn more about weaving drafts and design techniques. The choice is yours!

WHAT YOU NEED TO COMPLETE THIS CLASS

* Inkle loom, preferably a full size rather than an Inklette or similar.

If you have a smaller inkle loom you can still complete the class but will have to modify some of the designs to fit. Another benefit of a full sized inkle is you have plenty of room for the placement of your extra heddles.

  • Heddles. These can either be pre purchased or you can make your own from tapestry cotton or similar (instructions are provided in the class).

I love to use texsolv heddles and find them far superior to making my own, however I recognise they can be expensive to buy, so I leave the choice to you.

  • Belt shuttle. This should come with your inkle loom. It is a specific band weaving shuttle.
  • Warp separators. These could be small pieces of cardboard sticks or ice cream/craft sticks.
  • Empty boat shuttle bobbin or small piece of dowel. This will be used to anchor our front heddles.
  • Masking tape. (affiliate link) Also used to anchor the front heddles and prevent slippage.
  • Waste yarn. Handy for securing heddles and/or unsecured warp threads.
  • Kitchen bag sealing clips (affiliate link). These are fantastic for making an extra shed and securing warp threads. I have a variety of sizes, but mostly use the 4" size in this class.
  • Yarn. My favourite yarn to weave inkle bands with is unmercerized 8/2 cotton, and that is mostly what I will be using in this class.
